Strength is a Village

It’s time to share. On Oct 27th I had a stroke. After noticing some slurred speech and tingling in my left fingers and lower lip I called 911.

It was a 3 out of 42 on the stroke scale making it a minor stroke and after 3 days in the hospital I came home on Monday October 30th. My smile is almost back to normal and my slight slur gets better everyday. I have no physical or cognitive deficits.

I was lucky and am grateful.

Here is what I have learned:
- Being a patient is a humbling experience
- All in the helping professions are special
- Family and friends who will drop everything to help are a gift
- Speech therapists are miracle workers
- Celebrate the little victories daily
- Ask for and accept help. Make healing a team sport
- Rest is medicine
- Patience is a superpower

I knew my tribe was supportive and loving anchored by my partner of 26 year and the kids as well as my mom. Neighbors, friends, faitht family, baseball family and work family reminds me daily that there is strength in a village.

Back to work tomorrow!
